What to do about a pot belly?

Many people don't even realise that they have a pot belly. However, what is known among doctors as abdominal obesity can pose a serious health risk.

The most important message of the following success story in advance: You can do something about a pot belly. This typical case shows that the concept of Modern Mayr Medicine at Park Igls can successfully help.

Widespread suffering in the western world

The pot belly - an overview

  • It is caused by the accumulation of fat in the abdomen and is often associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other metabolic disorders
  • According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 41.9% of adults in the United States suffer from obesity, with Black and Latino adults having the highest rates at 49.9% and 45.6%, respectively (CDC) (TFAH).
  • This high prevalence is often caused by an unhealthy diet, excessive alcohol consumption, lack of exercise and chronic stress.
  • The increased pressure in the abdomen can lead to digestive problems and other health complaints.
  • A bloated abdomen is not only aesthetically unpleasant, but also a sign that the body is under strain.

When the level of suffering becomes too high

A guest from overseas

The male guest from the USA made his first visit to the Park Igls Medical Spa Resort in his early 40s. Not entirely atypical either: he did not do this on his own initiative, but at the urging of his concerned wife. The couple run a successful restaurant together in the USA. He is the creative mind in the kitchen. But the constant stress and strain of the previous summer have pushed them both to their limits. They decide that it is time to prioritise their health - far away from home with the specialists at Park Igls.

Our guest reports that he has recently been suffering more and more from stomach pains, especially after meals. Due to his job, he often eats standing up, gulps down his food and reaches for unhealthy junk food far too often. His drinking habits are also anything but ideal: 5 to 6 glasses of beer a day are not uncommon, which is part of everyday life. He also drinks an energy drink and a black, sugary fizzy drink every day. Despite an inconspicuous gastroscopy in the USA, his abdominal girth of 87 cm and his conspicuous pot belly are cause for concern.

Mayr cure and change in diet

With a BMI of 23.1, our guest is of normal weight, but his health problems require a change in lifestyle. A detailed initial examination reveals a slight pressure pain in the right lower abdomen. Together with the medical team at Park Igls, a decision is made to start with diet level 4 in order to slowly acclimatise the body to the changes. At Park Igls, each guest receives individualised care, starting with a detailed medical examination. Based on these results, a customised treatment plan is drawn up.

Challenges and successes

The start of the Mayr cure is a challenge for our guest. He finds it difficult to chew slowly and thoroughly, and the small meals don't seem to be enough at first. But he soon realises that the light dishes of our alkaline-oriented Mayr Cuisine are good for him. The abdominal treatments, consisting of special abdominal massages and beeswax wraps, have an effect and the pressure pain in his lower abdomen begins to subside. The therapy at Park Igls also includes relaxation exercises and stress management techniques that help to improve eating habits and reduce stress levels.

Noticeable improvements

Over the course of the week, our guest realises that his abdominal pain has completely disappeared. The pot belly is significantly less and the pressure pain in the lower right abdomen is completely gone. He is amazed at how quickly his body reacts positively to the changes. In addition to medical treatments, Park Igls also offers programmes to promote physical activity. Our guest takes part in yoga and exercise programmes aimed specifically at promoting digestion and strengthening the abdominal muscles.

A new beginning

Sustainable health through Modern Mayr Medicine

At the end of his one-week stay at the Park Igls Medical Spa Resort, our American guest feels "reborn". The Modern Mayr Cure has not only alleviated his physical complaints, but has also given him a new perspective on nutrition and health. He returned to his everyday life with new knowledge and a stronger will, determined to maintain his healthy habits and improve his life in the long term.

The healthy time-out has shown him that it is never too late to do something for his health and that even small changes can have a big impact. This story is also an inspiring example of how targeted health measures and the right environment can lead to a healthier and happier life.
