An Active Start to Summer in the Mountains – From Park Igls
Summer in Igls broadens your horizons – in every sense. A stay at the Park Igls Medical Spa Resort offers the chance to experience the Tyrolean plateau at its most spectacular. From your room to the summit: on foot, by mountain bike or e-bike, or even with climbing harness – these three challenging yet flexible tours show how diverse movement in nature can be. All destinations are within direct view of Park Igls and either start right at the resort or are easily accessible by public transport. Our guests enjoy exclusive access to a specially compiled tour guide available on site, with detailed descriptions and personal recommendations – tailored to individual fitness levels and daily condition.
The hike up Patscherkofel is a classic among Innsbruck’s local mountains – and for good reason. The route begins at the hotel door, winding steadily upward through fields and light woodland, past the village of Patsch and a short steep section, before a wide forest road leads you with consistent incline to the 2,245-metre summit.
The reward: a breathtaking view over the Tyrolean capital, the Wipptal valley, the Tux Alps, the Stubai Alps and the Karwendel mountains. Thanks to the Patscherkofel cable car, you can enjoy a knee-friendly descent – or shorten the tour by starting from the top station.
- Start: Park Igls
- Destination: Patscherkofel summit
- Elevation gain: 1,562 m (alternatively 247 m from the top station)
- Total walking time: approx. 8 hours (2 hours from the top station)
This tour combines physical activity with spectacular perspectives – including a sweeping view back across the Inn valley to Igls. The starting point at the Hungerburg, located at the base station of the Nordkette cable car, is accessible by car or with bus line J (bike rack available; limited space on the bus). From there, the route leads through varied and shaded forest terrain, past the Arzler Alm and on to the beautifully situated Höttinger Alm at 1,482 m.
The forest road is ideal for (e-)bikes and features a mix of steady climbs and open stretches – always accompanied by impressive views across the Inn valley and surrounding mountain ranges. The return follows the same relaxed route back.
Start: Hungerburg, Innsbruck
Destination: Höttinger Alm
Elevation gain: 619 m
Distance: 13.8 km
Riding time: approx. 2 hours 20 minutes
The Sagen-Klettersteig on the Glungezer offers experienced guests an alpine adventure full of dramatic views and mythical flair. Fully renovated in 2021, the route features varying levels of difficulty (A–C) – from beginner-friendly slabs to the challenging “Magic Wall”. This approx. 2.5-hour tour climbs 400 vertical metres, leading through exposed ridges, chimneys, and across a suspension bridge. The entry point lies above the Zirbensee, and the Glungezer Hut is just 10 minutes from the exit.
If you're unsure or don’t have your own equipment, climbing sets, harnesses and helmets can be rented at the Glungezer cable car base station – and a certified guide can be booked if desired.
- Start: Top station of the Glungezer cable car
- Destination: Glungezer Hut
- Elevation gain: approx. 400 m
- Duration: approx. 2.5 hours
- Tip: Start your tour in the morning – ideally before 1:00 pm to catch the last cable car back to the valley

Relaxation With a View
After each tour, well-earned regeneration awaits at Park Igls: in the sauna, by the pool or with a personalised treatment. After a long day in the mountains, we especially recommend a visit to our Kneipp hydrotherapy facility in the park. Alternating between cold and warm water stimulates circulation, boosts the immune system and relaxes the muscles – the ideal end to an active day in the mountains.
And as body and mind unwind, your view stretches from the garden to the peaks of the Patscherkofel and Glungezer, as well as the Höttinger Alm on the opposite Nordkette – the day’s sporty highlights in full view.
The circle is complete: what began as a physical challenge during the day finds its peaceful conclusion in the evening – in harmony with nature and your own rhythm.
