Honouring expertise in Modern Mayr Medicine

The appointment honours Dr Richard Kogelnig’s long-standing expertise in Modern Mayr Medicine and his commitment to education, quality and further development.

What does this appointment as a training physician to the International Mayr Society mean to you personally?

The appointment as a training physician to the International Mayr Society is a great honour for me and, at the same time, a significant responsibility. It recognises my many years of clinical work, my experience in Modern Mayr Medicine, and my commitment to quality and further development. On a personal level, it also means that I am able to actively contribute to the future of this medical approach and pass on my knowledge in a structured way to the next generation of doctors.

Which values and principles of Modern Mayr Medicine are particularly important to you in the training of the next generation?

For me, medical precision, individualisation, and scientific grounding are central. Modern Mayr Medicine offers a differentiated, physician-led therapeutic concept. In training, I place great importance on a deep understanding of intestinal physiology, metabolism, and neuroendocrine regulation, as well as strong clinical observation skills. Equally important are the psychosocial dimension, the patient’s life context in which disease develops, empathy, time for the patient, and the communication of natural, salutogenetic factors in recovery and prevention.

What role will Modern Mayr Medicine play in the future in the context of prevention and holistic health?

I am convinced that Modern Mayr Medicine will play a key role. In view of the increasing prevalence of chronic, lifestyle-related diseases, it offers a structured, medically guided preventive concept. It intervenes early, regulates metabolic and inflammatory processes, and strengthens the body’s self-regulatory capacity. In this way, it fits perfectly into a modern understanding of prevention and longevity medicine.

What continues to fascinate you about Modern Mayr Medicine, and how has the field evolved in recent years?

»What fascinates me most is the clinical effectiveness based on comparatively simple principles.«

The importance of the gut as a central regulatory organ is impressively confirmed by research. Over the past decades, Mayr Medicine has evolved significantly: moving away from standardised cures towards a differentiated, diagnostically grounded, personalised medicine that meaningfully integrates modern diagnostics, nutritional medicine, chronobiology, psychoneuroimmunology, and the latest insights from ageing research and prevention.
