Holistic healing at Park Igls

Shiatsu originated in Japan and is based upon the theoretical framework of traditional Chinese medicine, its name actually means ‘finger pressure’ in Japanese.

Shiatsu works on the whole person and is based on the Chinese Five Elements Theory. It supports the body’s natural ability to heal itself by working on meridians and acupuncture points. This resolves physical and emotional blockages, allowing body and mind to relax.

Shiatsu is a healing art – as well as being extremely relaxing for the recipient. We have seen Shiatsu successfully help many complaints including: tension, stress, exhaustion, anxiety attacks, burnout, grief, fatigue, insomnia, respiratory diseases, migraines, joint and back pain, restricted mobility and chronic pain.
Recipients of Shiatsu remain fully clothed during the treatment, which takes place on a mat or futon on the floor. Mindful pressure is applied, mostly by palming and thumbing. Modern Shiatsu is bolstered by western approaches to anatomy, pathology, psychology and myofascial therapy. Treatments encompass rotations, stretching, rocking, mobilising the spine and joints and Hara Shiatsu (organ treatment).

Shiatsu’s holistic healing approach makes it an ideal therapy for our fast-paced way of life. Touching the body, mind and spirit, the aim is to balance energy flow. In keeping with ancient Asian traditions, all aspects of life are considered since the assumption is that nutrition and lifestyle affect Qi (energy), it is therefore a good idea to combine a Modern Mayr diet with a Shiatsu treatment plan to achieve an overall health improvement.
